Holiday Season Tips

Santa isn’t the only one who needs to travel this holiday season. That’s why we’re adding extra sailings and offering travel tips to help ensure smooth sailing at this time of year. We’re looking forward to welcoming you on board soon.

Additional Sailings

Between December 20 and January 1 we are adding:

  • 130 extra sailings on the Vancouver – Victoria route (Tsawwassen – Swartz Bay), the most popular route in the fleet, including:
    • 6 a.m. departures from Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay on December 26 and 27
    • 10 p.m. from Tsawwassen on December 21 and 28
    • 10 p.m. from Swartz Bay on December 23, 26 and 27
    • Midnight sailings from Tsawwassen on December 26 and 27
  • 30+ extra sailings on the West Vancouver – Nanaimo route (Horseshoe Bay – Departure Bay)
  • 6 extra sailings on the West Vancouver – Sunshine Coast route (Horseshoe Bay – Langdale)

We encourage customers to reserve early to guarantee a spot on the sailing of their choice. Customers with flexibility in their schedules can travel at off-peak times to avoid the rush. Reservations start at just $10 when booked 7 days in advance. Customers may also travel without booking in advance, but will travel on a ‘first come, first-served’ basis.

Your reservation will hold a space for you on your confirmed sailing. The specific placement of your vehicle onboard the ferry is not guaranteed. Depending on traffic volumes, reserved customers may be loaded on either the upper or lower vehicle decks to balance the distribution of vehicles on the ship, maximize the number of vehicles loaded and facilitate on-time departures. We need to load more than one lane at a time to adhere to our schedule. Customers with special circumstances, such as medical difficulties, mobility challenges or special needs, may request to be loaded on the upper car deck upon arrival at the ticket booth. We will do our best to accommodate these requests, based on space availability and traffic volume.

Arrive Early

We encourage customers with advance bookings to arrive at the terminal 30 to 60 minutes before their scheduled departure. If you’re travelling as a foot passenger, we recommend you arrive 45 minutes early for your anticipated sailing. Non-reserved vehicle traffic may experience higher volumes at peak times. Please refer to current conditions and plan accordingly.

Peak Travel Times over the Holiday Season

We expect December 23 to be the most popular travel day before Christmas. December 26 – 28 are likely to have the highest traffic volume after Christmas, while December 27 will likely be the most popular travel day of the holiday season overall.

Terminal Parking

During the holiday season, parking lots at our terminals tend to fill up quickly. If possible, we strongly encourage customers to take public transit or to arrange to be dropped off at the terminal. At Tsawwassen, a Park & Go service is available near the start of the causeway.
